35mm Project

Remember when I bought the Canon Sure Shot 70 Zoom? I finally developed my first roll of film. And I am in love! I am amazed how well the photos came out and for a $2 camera! Sadly the other toy camera had issues with film winding and I couldn't develop the photos I took. I probably won't try to use that camera again. But now that I know how the Canon Sure Shot works, I can't wait to keep using it. I am really amazed that it had depth of field and I like the subtle vignetting.

And me, the squinty photographer!

And for comparison, digital on the left and film on the right.

Recipe: Zucchini and Yellow Squash Bread

Mmmm...this zucchini bread is the best when it is fresh and warm with a little butter and a cup of tea. I made this last night and it made the house smell so wonderful!

You will need:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
2 1/4 cups white sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups grated zucchini
1 1/2 cups grated yellow squash

Grease and flour two 8 x 4 inch pans. I made it in one big loaf pan and had to cook it twice as long and cover it to keep it from burning so I recommend making two medium loafs instead. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Sift flour, salt, baking powder, soda, and cinnamon together in a bowl. Beat eggs, oil, vanilla, and sugar together in a large bowl. Add sifted ingredients to the creamed mixture, and beat well. My batter was a little dry and crumbly and if yours is too just add a little water until it is the consistency of room temperature peanut butter.  Stir in zucchini and yellow squash until well combined. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 40 to 60 minutes, or until tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on rack for 20 minutes. Slice and eat!

Show Some Love

So, these past couple weeks in the blogger world seem a little gloomy. I guess there has been some drama and meanness happening. Oh no! So I am putting my goofy self and lit up heart out there to spread some love around! I read so many blogs and even though I don't always comment, I enjoy them and I appreciate the person behind the blog taking the time to share. I hope we can take a breath and stop judging each other. Realize that what we assume about someone is probably not the truth. I hate seeing talented and wonderful people feeling discouraged and hurt.

So what can you do to help?

Blog a photo of yourself with a heart and show some love too! Wouldn't it be cute for each of us to have a photo of ourselves with a heart? Comment with a link to yours please!

Feel free to use the banner. Happy blogging everyone!

Saturday Downtown Continued

Last Saturday, we went downtown and to my favorite place- Fat Fancy!

I got this jean jacket. It has a modern fit and reminds me of my mother a little, but I still love it! It will be great this summer with a sun dress on the chillier days or at the coast.

Fat Fancy is the best! They are a vintage and modern plus size clothing shop in Portland. Before they had the lovely store, they were running out of a basement in North Portland and I went back then too. Plus, Beth Ditto shops there and Leslie Hall sells her clothing there. I went to the grand opening and Beth and the Portland Mayor were there. The ladies that run it are also super sweet. It is amazing that we have this store!

I have been trying to convince them to sell me the owl wall hangings forever!

Fat Fashion Revolution NOW!

Then we went to Compound and I spotted this awesome inflatable moose head. They are an art gallery and store. They have a lot of Japanese toys, books and I always buy Pocky when I am there.

We decided to find a cart village to eat at. I swear you can walk two block in any direction in Portland and find a food cart these days.

We had falafel sandwiches at Sabria's Arabic Food that were very yummy! The mister took these photos of me while we waited for our falafel to cook.

Then we hit the classic arcade, Ground Kontrol and met with some friends for beers.

They recently remodeled and it is quite fancy in there now. The bathroom has Pacman tiles and Tron-like lit-up sinks. The tables lit up too. I finished the evening off like any normal adult, with a sundae. And a cherry on top!

Music Monday: Her Space Holiday

That's right folks, it is Music Monday! This song has been on heavy rotation for me. It came up randomly on my Pandora last week and I have been listening to it since. Enjoy the video below!

I also just started using Rhapsody and would love recommendations for any new music. Comment with what you think I will like!
