Hair Talk

I have purple in my hair now! I did my hair on Tuesday. It is the same but a little different. I cut the short side only and left the long side alone. I bleached the roots and the rest of my hair a bit. Then I dyed it the same red as before and added purple streaks in the layers of the long side and my bangs. I was thinking that I could get rid of the red in some of the spots so that the purple would look more purple. But apparently, the red does not fade at all and just wouldn't budge. So the purple is dark but I am hoping it will lighten up and look more lavender after a few washes.

It was a big project and took all evening but since I do it every 3 months, it isn't so bad. I left the bleach in for the recommended amount of time but the color I left on for at least 2 hours. I am not sure if this is recommended for everyone since all hair is different. But my hair is resilient to damage and felt soft and deep conditioned afterwards.

I forgot to take a picture of the back but basically it is short on one side and gradually gets longer on the other side. I cut the bottom at a slight angle like before. This is basically the easiest haircut I have ever had to give myself because I have to maintain one side. It is the side that is easier to cut too. If any of you cut your own hair, you know what I mean. I am right handed so the right side is a breeze. I love my fresh do! Asymmetrical haircuts are bad-ass. Especially when you pair that with a accidentally purple-dyed boob.

Wednesday could care less about all this hair nonsense!

awesome hair color. the purple streaks really suit you. I miss having short hair, it looks so great on you :)

in my experience, it's the bleach that is damagikng and that you have to take extra care with, but the dye, especially the fancy 'punk' colors, (since they aren't permanent) are actually conditioning. I also let them in for as long as possible. love how the red goes with your one-sided cut! <3

I'm never sure if I could pull off an assymetric do. The one thing I do know though is that I am LAZY with my hair!

Me too! I don't spend more than 10 minutes with my hair in the morning. This haircut has been working for me because it goes with what my hair naturally wants to do. Score!

I love these photos. Your face is full of some cute sass, and that color is just such a happy color! I know what you mean about easy upkeep on short hair--I kept trying to trim my hair down, but finally just took the plunge and used my partner's beard trimmer to shave everywhere except my mohawk. And since my official plan is to grow the mohawk park out, my upkeep magically became super easy!

Definitely, because the bleach burns and I can only take so much! But the color is like sweet relief and I can forget I have it in my hair. Thank you!

Very cute! I was really surprised how differently hair lifts when it's bleached for different people. I always did my own, and my friend Amber's hair. Hers is curly and has a course texture and while mine would lift to white in 10 when I bleached it hers reacted exactly like yours- taking forever to react! The longer you leave the dye on the better, because it'll condition it beautifully and a conditioning mask before you bleach should make it lift a bit better.

I'm amazed that the red took so well for you! I guess it's my hair, but the red came out so quickly and went everywhere. I wish it had stuck around or I'd have kept it a fun colour much longer- enjoy! :)

What a cute and fun cut! I wish I could be so bold with my hair but I just don't have patience for it. Since I cut it in January, I'm anxious for it to get long again, haven't even had a trim so I'm in that awkward period right now. The short hair looks great on you.

You look gorgeous. I seriously love your hair. It always looks so shiny and healthy. I haven't dyed my hair in about a year, so now it's all natural... but seeing yours makes me want to dive headfirst into a bathtub of colourful dye.

You are so brave dying your own hair. I would end up with an accidental purple dyed FACE never mind boob.

Ok, so I never commented before and you get 2 in one nite.... Lol. Anyways, after you apply the dye, blow dry your hair and leave it unwashed for as long as you can stand, at least over night. makes a huge difference, that's what the girl who does my hair does/suggests. Also, add the dye to your shampoo or conditioner every couple of washes, itll refresh the color Unsolicited advice over.

I know you have probably posted before..but what brand of hair dye do you use? Because your red just stays amazingly red for ages!

Your hair makes me want red hair again! I've got lilac hair at the moment but got dark ash brown roots coming through, gonna be hell to sort them out! xxxx

Just when I thought your hair couldn't get any cooler, it does! I love the asymmetrical cut and the two tones. And once it comes close to lavender, it'll look even better. Sigh, maybe some day I'll gather some courage and do something creative with my hair. You sure give me a push to do it, though. :)

Another fat goddess with asymmetrical hair? Hells heah! I got my hair shaved on the right side, not completely half, probably more like the right third of my hair... but I feel like such. A. Badass!

And I wanted to personally thank you. As a teenager, I thought I was good looking but everyone bullied me. Well my self esteem of course was bruised, but after reading your blog for a while and diving into fat-activism, I feel more glorious than ever. I can never thank you enough for opening my eyes.

I totally love your hair! I had red (not quite as bright as yours) and purple streaks last year and totally loved it. :)

Rachele said...

That sounds awesome. I love shaved styles!

Rachele said...

It totally created a bond with my hair. That red doesn't want to go anywhere. I get little pink tinges on things like my comb, pillow and sometimes it looks like I am making koolaid in the shower. I guess different hair texture react differently!

Rachele said...

I hope it turns lavender! Thank you!

Rachele said...

Yours is looking longer. When I grow mine out I keep trimming the back and around the neck and that helps with the awkward stages. Good luck with your hair growing!

Rachele said...

Thanks lady!

Rachele said...

Thank you!

Rachele said...

Do it! I am an enabler. I think the trick with keeping mine healthy is that it is short and I basically have a completely new head of hair at least once a year.

Rachele said...

I get it on my face too :( But I do it after a long day so my face oils will protect my skin. Sounds gross but it works. I have tried vaseline but somehow it gets into my hair and then it rejects the dye. It's hard for a clumsy person like me!

Rachele said...

I am way too much of a crazy sleeper to keep it from getting everywhere. But those are good tips!

Rachele said...

Splat from Rite Aid! It's about $10 and has the cheesiest box you have ever seen. It is also on Amazon.

Thanks!

I love pastel colors! They sound tricky to upkeep. The red is pretty forgiving\. I can keep layering dye jobs on top of each other.

Rachele said...

Thanks dear! I hope the purple gets lighter too. Do iiiitttt! It's just hair afterall.

Thanks! She is such a weirdo. She throws a fit that I am picking her up until she notices the camera. She loves getting her photo taken.

Rachele said...

Thanks! I have had short hair forever so it is oppositve for me. I can't imagine having long hair! Your hair is quite beautiful though <3

Rachele said...

Thanks! I spend 10 minutes tops on my hair in the morning. Maybe on the weekend I fuss with a little more because I have more time. It is so easy!

Rachele said...

Thanks dear!

It is a lovely color combo!

Guh, you make me want to cut my hair, but i'm trying to grow it. I LOVE that cut, it looks so great on you and the colour is fab! I always leave my hair colour on a couple of house, with dyes like fudge/manic panic etc it doesn't damage to leave it in longer.
