This is the drive-in we went to a couple weekends ago! It is the 99W Drive-In in Newberg and they have a neat history. The theater has been owned by the same family for three generations and they maintain a lot of the retro feel.
They have had to replace the screen a couple times after some bad storms but the posts for the car speakers are still there. They help tell you where you need to park but have no other use since the sound comes through the radio now.
When you go, plan to be there for a long time. They always play a double-feature and you want to get there early to grab a good spot. Sometimes, there is a line to get in and they might run out of spaces. We were there from about 6 PM to 2 AM. You can certainly leave after the first feature but why would you? You can bring in your own food, pets and whatever else you want to do to kill time before dusk. You can have a picnic or play catch or just hang out. You can also lay out a blanket in front of your car and watch the movie from there. If you have a truck or hatchback you can turn your car around and watch the movie from the back of the car. We go with just the normal seats because my car is a little teeny for two grown adults. But it is great for families and a totally different experience than going to a corporate owned theater.
We went right after work and didn't plan ahead with any food. But they have the best nachos and popcorn so we were happy to support the theater. They also play old trailers and concession snack bar reels. Love it!
Finally dusk arrives and you crank up your radio and curl up under a blanket.
We will definitely be making this a more regular habit!

This is AWESOME!!!! We dont have these in the UK. I would love to go to one.
That looks like an amazingly good time! Wonderful pictures. Atlanta has a drive-in and I've been waiting to visit until the weather cools down here in muggyland... :)
Love love love the drive-ins! We just had one re-open here and I have been dying to go but it's been too hot. Waiting for the cooler weather and then we are there!

So jealous! I looked into drive in movies for where we live and nothing- they have all closed down, gutted! As always fab photos, you do have a nack of catching how much you enjoy yourself.
This is one thing that has been added to my bucket list!
Man it's been forever since I've been to a Drive-In theater, and this one looks so retro and cool!
We have a bunch around here. One right down te road from me, another about five minutes and another about twenty.
I love them!
Where's Newburg? Maybe I can talk my family into going on vacation here before school starts! I love drive-ins!
I love drive in movie theaters! One time my best friend, her mom and I took her two dogs and saw a movie, we filled the bed of the truck with tons of pillows and blankets, it was so much fun! The theater is in the ghetto now so it's not too safe for just girls but I still have the memories!
Ah! I've always wanted to go to a drive in. I should get up and go!
Oregon, south of Portland.
My friend was telling me a place like this near our house (or at least 30 minutes away) and I want to go so badly. They do the radio thing too and my friend said they bought a cheap boom box that sit outside with their chairs so they don't have to crank the car up. I really want to go sometime before it gets too cold. Also glad to see you both had fun!

WHICH ONES DID YOU SEE????? WHICH ONES DID YOU SEE??? WHY HASN'T ANYONE ELSE ASKED THIS YET???
Haha, I know right?! I told you with pictures but if you didn't catch it we saw The Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Knight Rises.
My eye sight HAS been getting worse, but most likely it was that I was distracted by the incredible typography on the drive in ads... Either way I love Batman and you should totally go see Brave.
Warning: I bawled.
I am sooo thankful that there is a drive in movie theater so close to me! They are seriously the coolest. In fact I've gotten so used to watching movies at the drive in and being able to imitate characters, scream profanities at the screen, and bawl during sad parts that I don't think I should be allowed into a regular movie theater... that whole don't make any noise thing would ruin me.
That is so awesome! I wish we had something like that in the UK!
This reminds me of the drive in near my aunt's cottage. We go at least once every summer, but I am missing it this year which makes me sad. I love drive ins, except for the bugs so we put a bug net over the car.
This drive in looks so rad and retro and clean! My dad used to take us when we were young and he would be asleep before the first movie even started. It was always too cold or too humid or smelly or something and he never let us buy stuff from the concession area. lol He instead brought Safeway fried chicken and generic soda. I so hated it when he announced we were going to the drive in! (I am not a big outside of the house movie viewer to this day.) I want to give it another try (at a better drive in) as an adult! :)
Oh my goodness! I want to go to this drive-in so bad! I love all of your photos! Xo

Ah! I am so happy you blogged about this. I've been wanting to visit that drive-in all summer, but rarely have weekend nights off. I'm off tomorrow night, and I think I now know what I'm doing with my free evening. It looks so fun!
Also. I don't know if you've ever visited their website, but their FAQ is one of the funniest things ever. Whoever runs the site has a fantastic sense of humor!
OH! I love this-we went all the time when I was a kid and there are no drive-ins around here or back home now!!
I miss Newberg and the 99W drive in. I grew up in newberg and frequented all the movie theaters owned by the Francis Family. The Francis theatre was my (and about 100 other kids) frday night babysitter in my preteen years.
