Lonely Homebody Club #1

Tonight at 8 PM (PST) until 10 PM (PST) you can chat with me live about The Nearsighted Owl, blog design, fat acceptance, crocheting, art, cats, hair, thrifting, whatever! There will probably be wine drinking, eating cookies and crocheting, because that is what I do on a Friday night. This was a last minute idea and starting in just a couple hours 15 minutes, but I thought it would be fun to try and see how it works and if it is something I can do regularly. I will respond to your questions that you leave in the comments during a live broadcast that will be on this post. If you add me on Google+, you may be able to join the hang out and group video chat. The whole thing will also record and be on YouTube, which is way more fun than me talking to myself!

Truth be told, I tried going out by myself and having a social life last weekend and it was a huge failure and many tears were shed. I was thinking, I like the people I have gotten to know through my blog so much and why can't I just hang out with them. I would have so much more fun staying at home crocheting, chatting and drinking wine so here we are! I started the "Lonely Homebody Club".

So, come back to this post at 8 PM to participate! The hang out is over but it was a blast! If you so dare, you can watch the uploaded video above. I wouldn't blame you if you skipped the first 10 minutes and scanned through the rest. I was a little scatterbrained! But I noticed that I got distracted trying to fix technical things and get people logged in. So next time, I will change some things. Like it will be for one hour instead of two, there will be plenty of notice beforehand and I will find a way to organize people that want to join the video chat. We also hung out a little longer after the broadcast stopped recording and that was fun. So the first hour can be more structured and then people can feel free to stick around. Please note, I am in no way doing this because I believe that I am popular and everybody wants to talk to me. I was almost certain nobody would show up! But I really do want to get to know my blog friends more and create some friendships. So instead of trying to catch up on messages and comments and emails, this is a much easier and fun way to get to know each other! Stay tuned for another one in the next couple of weeks. I will be brewing up some ideas.

You can ask me questions for next time using this form

I feel like a stalker just watching you girls! Super cute though and my little girl keeps waving hi to you :)

How do I join in?

I found your blog on Pinterest and saw this. So I'm watching, but I don't have a blog.

Erica Franks said...

just did :)

Hi hi! I'm being a lady lurker and watching from your blog...my computer is SO slow so video isn't an option. Boooo! I feel like I'm watching a private conversation...super voyer!

Erica Franks said...

I'm just going to watch because my girl wants to be a part of the conversation too lol, but I wanted to ask you what ended up happening with your work trying to charge for being "unhealthy"?

Karla Swenson said...

I recommend The Happy Hooker. That helped me a lot with patterns.

Jenna Rogers said...

So let's talk about super serious things...like...cats. I'm a mother of 4 furry felines and wouldn't hate aka would love to have another. Would you ever adopt another cat?

Yay cats!

I'm watching, just too shy to show my face on camera yet -- you ladies are brave pioneers. :)

Rachele, I just finished reading Lessons from the Fat-O-Sphere on your recommendation and I loved it -- by the end of the book I felt a new sense of confidence, a new world opened up -- just wanted to say thank you!

We have to take the same assessment at my job...except we get a discount if we take it. They do make us go to "health advisers" though...which is so annoying.

Jenna Rogers said...

Oh and they hold weight watchers lunch meetings that they encourage people to go to...but they charge you. I mean come on...if you want us to go to the meetings you can at least comp us for it. Picky bitches! :p

Jenna Rogers said...

Oh! Do you do blog redesigns for people looking to revamp their blog? I feel like this is something I should know already but if I did...I've forgotten!

Shasta Halley said...

Just curious if any of you are going to dress up for Halloween -- I haven't dressed up in about 15 years, but I'm kind of interested in creative, EASY costume ideas for this year. I've been trying to think of something Seinfeld-related . . .

This is super cool! Now I don't feel like such a lame being home on a Friday night... ;)

I'm signing off ladies! Have a fabulous chat :) Super neat idea Rachel!

Just wanted to say a huge thank you, it was fab to talk to you all and I really enjoyed it (although I will not watch it back, I hate hearing my own voice!), thank you. I blog at Life Without Lemons which is a blog about my new life in Canada, my food, my kids and lots of gin and tonics! Feel free to drop by at http://lwlelyse.blogspot.ca/

Elyse Chatterton said...

I will try that one, thank you

Had to run earlier, but wanted to come back and say thanks for hosting this and it was fun to meet you all!

Elyse Chatterton said...

Hi, just to say thank you for hosting! Scary but fun to talk live on your blog! http://lwlelyse.blogspot.ca/ is my little corner on the blog world. Once again thank you, less scary than walking into a bar by yourself but still pretty scary!

Wonderful chat tonight, ladies! I really enjoyed it!

Rachele said...

Me too! Now that I have the technical things worked out, next time will be even awesomer.

Rachele said...

Thanks for the recommendation! I am a total google student. I google questions to learn how to do things all the time.

It was a little scary for me too! I don't remember anything I said...next time will be much easier. It was really lovely talking to you and getting to know you more. I hope to talk to you more again! Love your pixie <3

Rachele said...

It was nice meeting you too! I would love to hear more about what you do! Sorry if I seemed scatterbrained lol.

I think I will have to join the next time :]

Rachele said...

Yes, please do! I think I will get more organized and try it again in a couple weeks.

Rachele said...

Doh! I missed your question. Sorry I had technical difficulties! But to answer your question, I probably....won't. I have been staying home more and more every year and since we probably won't go to a party, I won't dress up. But if I do anything last minute I will probably dress up as a flapper girl again - http://www.nearsightedowl.com/2010/10/ootd-halloween-costume.html

Rachele said...

That is so cute!

Rachele said...

Yay! I will be on my game more next time too.

simplyymayra said...

I can't believe I missed it! I'll catch it next time. I did watch the video and it seemed like a lot of fun. Nikkiana is one I would've loved to chat with as well as she is my Big Blogger Sister! It was fun watching!

Rachele said...

Me too! That's okay though because I didn't give much notice and it was all very last minute. Next time will be a thousand times more organized.

Rachele said...

Also, I really enjoyed hearing your voices and putting faces to names!

donna goat said...

This is such a great idea! I think the time difference will be too much for me but maybe I'll try it for one of my insomniac nights!

What a cool idea. I didnt watch the video yet but I know it went well!

Kate Dolamore said...

I missed it too but I love the idea. Sometimes I miss chatting, it was such an essential part of my teenage+early 20 years! Hopefully I can make it to one. I need to join Google+.

Erica Franks said...

Just wanted to say that I had fun for the little time I was able to hang out. Sorry my little one was so loud, I'll have to watch back and see just how loud she was :/. Hopefully I'll be able to join in next time after she goes to bed. If you want to check out my blog and who I am, it is thepaintedtrailer.blogspot.com :)

bonsaimum said...

Just had a quick look at your video--what a great idea. It would probably be hard for me to join as I live in Australia and I'll have to look up the time difference. Good luck , it looked like fun.

This is such a great Idea! It was a blast watching this! I hope I can be a part of it sometime!

Hey Rachele, I think it would be super cool if you started doing an interview series. Or maybe you could start a book club. :D <3 Sad I missed the stream and hang out session, but I will definitely make sure I drop in for the next one!!
