Challenging Wear: Muumuu

Muumuu's are bright and kitschy and need to be part of my closet! But something about the lack of waist and weird shape has made me wary of wearing this gem. Muumuu's also have a bad rap of being frumpy and what fat housewives wore in the 70's because nothing else fit them. Usually with curlers in their hair and a roller in their hand, they perpetuate the cliche of a nagging, undesirable and unfashionable woman. So silly for such a simple piece of polyester clothing! But clothing can carry a deeper meaning of what type of person you must be to wear it. i.e. bikini, skinny jeans, crop tops, etc. Fuck that! The only thing you need to wear clothes is a body to put them on.

muumuu : fat fancy
cardigan : thrifted
leggings : walmart
flats : clothing swap
glasses : coastal

oh! you are severely slammin' that muumuu. love it. did you belt it or add elastic to it? and is it really polyester? i need to find some polyester muumuus. all of mine are cotton and/rayon and so drape but a little on the stiff side. i think my favorite thing about a good muumuu is that neck, like yours, i love me that neckline in a top or dress!

I know what you mean about muumuu's - I too, have been wary of wearing one. I have a beautiful peasant-style smock one that I recently started wearing out with a red chord sash & it's great! I say let's take it back and make it our own!
